Psychological Counselling for 8-12 year olds

Is your tween finding things a bit difficult at the moment? Are they worried or anxious about school? Are they feeling sad or angry more than usual? Do they need some skills to help them manage their emotions, or somebody to talk to about their worries?

Possum House delivers a one-to-one program for 8-12-year-olds, helping them build these skills using age-appropriate games and activities. Psychologist Rahman Gray, delivers a 5-session program to children to build the skills they need, based on acceptance and commitment therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy.

The 5 sessions are delivered over one school term with regular fortnightly appointments to build the skills needed for improved emotional regulation and management of difficult feelings. Sessions can be provided with parents present or one-to-one with your child.

How do I access this program?

Your GP can refer you to our service using a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan. The program costs $175 per session and a Medicare rebate of at least $88.25, resulting in an out-of-pocket cost of $86.75 or less depending on your personal circumstances.

Where are sessions provided?

Possum House can provide this service at our family friendly clinics in Warrnambool and Hamilton, or at your child’s school if appropriate.

What happens if my child needs more than 5 sessions?

Your GP can request further sessions if needed, up to a total of 20 session per year.
